How to Meet with Us

Summer Drop-In Advising and Email

For Summer 2018 we offer drop-in advising exclusively for students who are applying to health programs this year:

  • Tuesdays, 9:00am – 12:00pm, 1:00pm – 3:30pm  (applicants only)
  • Wednesdays, 1:00pm – 3:30pm  (applicants only)

We invite sophomores, juniors, seniors, and alumni (as well as applicants) to schedule an appointment or email questions to our questions box at questions@prehealth.wisc.edu.

During the summer CPHA does not offer First Year Friday drop-in hours. Students who enrolled at UW – Madison as freshmen in 2017-2018 should complete the online orientation, “Preparing for Professional Programs in Health Care,” prior to scheduling appointments with an advisor during the summer.

First Year Advising

CPHA advises students to spend their first year on campus intentionally exploring majors and careers, building strong relationships with their academic advisors, and getting involved on and off campus. Join a student organization, volunteer in the community, or work in a campus lab … These are just a few excellent ways to set yourself up for success as a pre-health student!

First year students are also advised to meet with us during First Year Fridays drop-in hours. Each Friday from 9:00am to 12:00pm, CPHA hosts first come, first serve drop in advising specifically for first year students. If you are interested in a career in health care and would like to speak with an advisor, come up to our office for Friday drop-ins! If you can’t make it on Fridays, you can always email us at questions@prehealth.wisc.edu or correspond with an advisor via our online orientation course.

We require all first-year students interested in health care to complete our free, non-credit online orientation, “Preparing for Professional Programs in Health Care.” The orientation provides you the skills and information you need to prepare for your career from your first day at UW – Madison by helping you choose a major, plan coursework, find extracurricular activities, and understand the application process for professional health programs. Sign up for the online orientation here.

The online orientation is mandatory for all first year students (and highly recommended for transfer students) who wish to use advising resources at the Center for Pre-Health Advising, including scheduling face to face advising appointments.

During your first year at UW – Madison, you should complete the online orientation and begin the process of volunteering at a hospital or other facility (learn more through the online orientation course!) before scheduling advising appointments with CPHA during sophomore year. We look forward to making appointments with you in your sophomore year after you have completed the orientation and begun volunteering! In the meantime, come see us at First Year Fridays!
